Susie

FEMALE | SPAYED | UP TO DATE ON VACCINES | 4+ YEARS OLD | APPROX. 50LB | MIX | GREAT WITH PEOPLE | DOG SELECTIVE | GOOD WITH KIDS | NO CATS | HIGH ENERGY | SEPARATION ANXIETY | VERY SWEET | LOCATED IN INDIA

Meet Susie. She was the only surviving dog from a litter of puppies after her mother, who was blind, was killed by a car. Susie somehow managed to survive by hiding in the edges of a housing society in Kolkata, India.

Susie seemed to have no fear of the world and had an affinity for an Indian sweet called “Suji ka Halwa” which derived her name Susie. Susie struggled to survive on the streets and lived off trash and dead birds. When she was found by a local animal street feeder, she was emaciated so she began feeding her and giving her medication and had her spayed.

With nowhere to take her, she continued caring for her on the road and even after having to deal with people trying to hurt her and dogs attacking her she never stopped being adorable and wanting love. When SDS was asked to help last year, we said we would take her into the program and it took a very long time for us to find her a foster home. We had her temporarily in a compound where she was somewhat safe, but needed to find a better solution for her and we are thankful that she has now been moved into a foster home.

Susie is loving her new foster home, as for the first time in her life, she has a soft bed and a place where she can feel safe. Susie will stay here until we can get her moved to Delhi and then to a home abroad. Susie can be destructive and howl when left alone, so a condo environment is not recommended. She is also leash reactive with some dogs, so ideally Susie would live a more quiet suburban environment vs. the city.

Despite her rough start to life, Susie is an absolute gem who loves her people and is as affectionate as can be.
